From strangers to friends: how to use “Invite to chat again”

How to open Chat history, send an invite to chat again, and what to know so you don't lose someone you clicked with.

You just had a great conversation, then accidentally left or lost your connection? It used to mean losing touch for good. Not anymore.

When you can invite someone to chat again

  • You've had at least one conversation together with more than 50 messages, so invites go to people who have genuinely talked.
  • That conversation took place within the last 180 days.
  • The other person doesn't need to be online: the invite stays for 7 days.

How to send an invite

  1. Open the menu and choose “Chat history”.
  2. Find the person you want to talk to again. You'll see how many times you've chatted, the number of messages and whether they're online.
  3. Tap “Invite to chat again”.

When they accept, the new chat opens straight away next to your other chats. If you've turned on notifications, you'll be told even if you've closed the page.

When you receive an invite

You'll see a pop-up saying the person wants to chat again if you're on the page, a red dot on Chat history, or a notification if you've turned them on. You can Accept, Decline or choose Later.

Good to know

  • Each person can only send a certain number of invites in a given period, so nobody gets spammed.
  • If you're already chatting with the maximum number of people, the invite waits until you end one of your chats.
  • Messages from the old conversation aren't restored: the new chat starts fresh, and it's end-to-end encrypted as always.
