Is Người Lạ Ơi free?
Yes. Every feature is free to use. The app shows ads to pay for the servers.
Do I need an account?
No. You only choose your gender, year of birth and area so we can match you with people who fit. On iPhone the app uses “Sign in with Apple” because Apple requires it, but we don't receive your email or account details.
Who can read my messages?
Only you and the person you're talking to. Messages are end-to-end encrypted: your device encrypts them before sending, and only the recipient's device has the key to decrypt them.
How long are messages kept?
Messages stay on the server (encrypted) only while the chat is open. Once both of you have left, they're deleted. Abandoned chats are deleted automatically after a while too.
Are the photos I send stored?
Photos sent in chats are deleted from the server automatically after 24 hours. Location data (GPS) is removed from photos when they're uploaded.
Can I find someone I talked to before?
We never randomly match the same two people twice. If you exchanged more than 50 messages in a chat, open “Chat history” and send an “Invite to chat again”. The invite stays for 7 days.
Is there a limit to how many people I can chat with at once?
On the web you can have up to 5 chats open at the same time. Tap (+) “Find more” to look for someone else while you keep chatting.
Someone is bothering me. What can I do?
Choose “Report User” in the menu, pick a reason and send it. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and accounts that break the rules can be suspended. You can also leave the chat at any time: that person won't be matched with you again.
How old do I need to be?
You must be 18 or older to use Người Lạ Ơi, as set out in our Terms of Use.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes, for iPhone (App Store) and Android (Google Play). Website and app users are matched together.
How do I get notified about new messages?
On the web, choose “Turn on notifications” in the menu: your browser will let you know about new messages and chat-again invites, even after you close the page. On iPhone, add the page to your Home Screen first (iOS 16.4 or later).
Why does the text in chats look slightly different?
The website shows messages with some look-alike characters so automated tools have a harder time copying them. You can read and send messages as usual.
